Epoca is an artisanal ceramics studio based in Ávila, founded by Sonia Pueche and Jaime Mato. Their entirely handcrafted pieces range from vases and teapots to sculptural lamps and jewelry, blending delicacy with a primitive and timeless aesthetic. THE PROCESS
For its founders, ceramics did not represent a shift in their professional careers but rather a natural expansion of their path. In 2016, they began working with clay out of curiosity, without anticipating where it would lead them. Over time, this initial exploration evolved into a creative necessity that now defines the essence of Época Ceramic. Their style has been shaped by a deep respect for materials and the pursuit of simplicity. Their workshop in Ávila is the epicenter of their creative process. Here, each piece is shaped by hand, without molds. They primarily work with refractory clays and stoneware, allowing the natural textures of the material to remain exposed, revealing its genuine character.
For Sonia and Jaime, sustainability goes beyond material choices—it is a way of understanding life. In a world that constantly pushes for limitless growth, they choose restraint. They believe in the value of having just enough and design pieces meant to endure, rejecting the disposable mindset. Their commitment to slow craftsmanship ensures that each object tells a story. Each creation embodies their philosophy: a return to the hands, where artisanal skill takes precedence over mass production. This dedication to traditional techniques has earned them recognition in prestigious design circles, including AD magazine and the Homo Faber guide.

Their work has crossed borders, reaching even China, where craftsmanship holds a deep-rooted tradition. In this context, the Gilliam Space gallery in Taiwan offered them a physical retail space, allowing their work to be experienced tangibly in a new territory. Both grew up in families that encouraged the pursuit of passion and creative instinct. Today, despite the countless hours they dedicate to their work, they do not see it as an effort but as a natural extension of their lives.
