A dialogue between cultures, expressed through the art of making
ido ferber
Born in Israel, Ido Ferber is a designer and craftsman whose work bridges tradition and modernity. Holding a B.A. in Product Design, he later deepened his expertise as a graduate of the MFA Ceramics Craft course at the Tokyo University of the Arts. His journey in craftsmanship led him to Mashiko, Japan, where he apprenticed under master potter Matsuzaki Ken, refining his skills in traditional Japanese ceramics. As one half of Sentomono, Ido’s approach is a dialogue between precision and intuition—shaping objects that embody simplicity and timeless function.

THE PROCESS
Born in 1989 in Israel, Ido spent his early years immersed in nature, drawing inspiration from its colors and textures. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in 2018. His passion for traditional craftsmanship led him to Japan, where he pursued a Master's degree in Ceramic Craft at the Tokyo University of the Arts. This immersion in Japanese craftsmanship marked a significant turning point, allowing him to learn from master artisans and refine his skills through direct experience. In collaboration with his partner, Rabea Gebler, Ido co-founded Sentomono, a small craft studio based in Yamanaka Onsen.
Ido's creative process is marked by an openness to interdisciplinary techniques and material combinations. He often "borrows" methods from various disciplines and cross-uses tools, enriching his craftsmanship.
Currently, Ido is focused on developing his private research project, “alien locality”. This endeavour seeks to create works that reflect local identity in a place where he is not a native. With deep roots in Israel terroir, Ido now strives to recreate a sense of locality using Japanese materials and techniques, bridging cultural landscapes.
