SANAE x Cà Na serra
SANAE presents a curated selection of Belgian contemporary designers within the serene architecture of Cá na Serra, nestled in the hills of Melides, Portugal.
The show brings together a curated selection of handcrafted works by Belgian designers Morevi, Marlies Huybs, Jessy Van Durme, Moss Studio, and Que Onda Vos, each exploring the intimate relationship between material, form, and place.
Through this collaboration, SANAE and Cá na Serra invite visitors into a contemplative space where design transcends function, becoming a dialogue between matter and meaning. The exhibition reflects on how craftsmanship can articulate the essence of place — through clay shaped by hand, textiles dyed by earth, and woodturned forms that breathe with quiet restraint.
Each piece on display embodies a deep sensitivity to process and provenance. The exhibition celebrates authenticity, imperfection, and the quiet poetry inherent in natural materials. The objects resonate with Cá na Serra’s raw and contemplative architecture, allowing the viewer to experience how design lives within a landscape rather than apart from it.
Curated by SANAE, a collective devoted to connecting and uplifting artisans from remote and often underrepresented regions, The Poetics of Material and Space speaks to a shared human impulse — to create with intention, to shape the world with care, and to find harmony between the hand and the horizon.
“This exhibition invites a quiet reflection on how objects, materials, and spaces relate to one another — where each gesture, surface, and form carries the story of its making”
The exhibition runs until September 2026 and can be visited by appointment or by staying at Cá na Serra. It will exceptionally open to the public on 23 April 2026 for a special vernissage, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the dialogue between maker, material, and space within this serene architectural setting.
